My name is Guido Ballarini, I have 15 years of experience in the field as translator/editor from English to Italian and Italian proofreader. My mother tongue is Italian and I have lived for over 9 years in the United States and for 5 of these years I worked as a full-time in-house translator from English to Italian. In this period I honed my translator and CAT user skills to a very high level. I also have several years of experience as project manager, having run translation projects for over a dozen of languages for almost 3 years. Since 2007 I am a Freelance translator with hundreds upon hundreds of jobs completed and over 2 millions of words translated for a total of 15 years of experience in the field. I am a proficient user of TRADOS and Wordfast and I have completed a big project on SmartCAT so I can use it professionally too.

I'm an Italian TRANSLATOR, PROOFREADER, author and teacher with a degree in English Language and Literature. I translate from ENGLISH and FRENCH to ITALIAN, my native language, I have worked in the publishing field as an author and coauthor, writing and editing books, dictionaries and readers for students of English (for more than 12 years), and created crosswords and puzzles in English for a magazine published monthly (for about five years). The subjects I'm more interested in are: tourism and monuments, history, geography, literature, gardening and plants, food and drinks, art, environment, animals, hobbies, celebrations, traditions, folklore, society, religion, children's books, stories, proverbs, poems, songs, music.

I started my career 21 years ago as in-house translator and PM at a translation agency based in Turin, Italy. After three years, I decided to take up the challenge and become a freelancer, in order to devote myself to those texts I was most interested in. My experience as PM gave me a deep insight into all aspects related to the translation process, thus I perfectly know and understand the needs and expectations of Project Managers whom I work with. I am able to work under pressure, and manage large volumes of work with no prejudice to quality. I am able to translate very technical texts, like instruction manuals for X-ray inspection systems, but also to use my creative side to produce translations of content marketing articles.

Bilingual Italian-German, I was defined a walking cat-tool by many colleagues. I speak English, German,Spanish, Portuguese,Dutch and of course Italian fluently, plus Arabic and French. What I adore most about languages, is that they allow you to define yourself in many ways and never miss a word to describe feelings and experiences. I am a research doctor in Slavic studies and Ural-Altaic philology. Member of AIS (Italian Slavists Association). Native languages: Italian and Russian. I've been working as a freelance translator since 2004, therefore I can deem myself quite skilled in such a field.
