I am an Arabic native-speaking. I spent several years in technical services. I have been working as a freelance translator for the past 21 years. I do not own a university degree in translation/interpretation, but the multitude of translation projects I have worked on over the years has done more for my capacity as a translator than any degree could have ever done.
